Monaco may be the second smallest country in the world – Only Vatican City Top of the Pope is smaller – but has one of the biggest shows in the world of sport – the Monaco Grand Prix.
No the Grand Prize only to see a sporting event, is also a key element of the social agenda, such as the Epsom Derby, Henley Regatta and Wimbledon. The race takes place in the winding streets of Monte Carlo and last year was won by Spain Fernando Alonso driving a McLaren, with the British sporting hero Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa at Ferrari, third.
Tickets for the Monaco Grand Prix can be difficult to achieve, but the first port of call is the Automobile Club of Monaco, which organizes the race. Tickets also can be purchased with the points set for the race weekend. However, if you can not find the entries from these sources, there are other ways to get views.
Many Monaco residents rent out their terraces and balconies for the Grand Prix, but these are not cheap. Prices typically range around € 8000 to 140,000 euros for the four-day event, including practice and qualifying sessions from May 22 Trying to look on eBay or in the newspapers as the morning, Nice and Monaco Herald Tribune.
An expensive way to see the Monaco Grand Prix could book a meal at one of the restaurants and hotels lining the track. Here you can dine on the terrace while watching Lewis Hamilton speeding past in his McLaren. Expect to pay anything from 90 euros 500 euros for lunch with a view to race days.
Several luxury hotels in Monaco is known to have views of the Grand Prix circuit. The best known of all is probably the fabulous five star Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo Place du Casino. This luxury hotel has only 191 rooms so you have to book well in advance if you want to enjoy the opulence and excellent service that attracted many celebrities.
No rest in Monaco is complete without an excursion to the famous Casino de Monte Carlo. That game is your thing or you simply want to enjoy some celebrity spotting, the Casino is an ideal place for a dinner that includes slots, roulette, craps, blackjack and poker, bars and restaurants and a nightclub.
Like many bars and night club Monte Carlo also has a thriving cultural scene. Popular choices for a night on the town are the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Opera de Monte-Carlo, and Les Ballets de Monte Carlo.
One of the many celebrities with a tampon in Monaco is the founder of easyJet, Stelios Haji-Ioannou. Many of the F1 drivers also have a house here. Stelios' low-cost carrier Ryanair is an airline that offer flights to Nice airport, the most convenient airport to Monaco.
Race fans traveling from the UK have the option flights to Nice. easyJet to fly from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and Edinburgh. From Heathrow airport, there is the choice of the BA (which also offers flights from Gatwick) and BMI. Passengers at Manchester Airport can fly with Jet2.com, bmibaby while serving Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport. Budget airline Flyglobespan offers flights from Glasgow airport to Nice. From Nice airport, a helicopter can travel in Monte Carlo in under 10 minutes.
Another popular way to travel Monaco is by boat or ship. The floating gin palaces – or motor boats, including luxury yachts and Sunseekers Princess – are a familiar sight in the port of Monte Carlo on race day. Doing so can not quite stretch to one of these is a boat service from the nearby port of St Jean Cap Ferrat, in Monte Carlo.
Monaco also a popular port of call for many Mediterranean cruises. Several cruise lines visit Monaco and Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Silversea Cruises and Crystal Cruises.
Probably not a good idea to travel by road during the Monaco Grand Prix, however. Access is very difficult and there is no parking available. Better to leave the conduct of Hamilton, Alonso, Massa and children.
